Has the TP world ended? Mais non!

All the weenies who complained that Lynch & Frost were stringing us along have
long since departed. Having abandoned their intellectual appetite for the
pabulum of traditional network TV, they missed out on the satisfaction of
seeing the conclusion of the Laura Palmer arc.

All along, Lynch & Frost told us Cooper's dream held the key to the identity of
Laura's murderer. And indeed, this was the case. All of the clues from
Cooper's dream and his visions were satisfactorily resolved. Yes, a golden
circle. All the other goings on were merely frosting on the TP cake--ephemeral
diversions meant to introduce us to the weird world (for us) of this city, as
dreamed up by Lynch & Frost:

"The germ of Twin Peaks," Frost told the Seattle Weekly, "came out of
David and I just talking about a town, a city in the Northwest full of
mysteries, secret relationships, a sort of film noir undertone . . .
That led to the idea of starting with the discovery of a body, a
mysterious crime that would get the show off the ground, serve as a
  spinal column for the series.

"That in turn led us to topography, a map of the town, and that gave
way to a history of the town that ended up going back over 100 years.
And that suggested what kind of people lived there now and their
interrelations, the way their pasts are connected, with the town's
  and each other's."

-- from the book "Welcome to Twin Peaks"

Even though people will continue to dissect the dozens of continuity errors
that have no doubt slipped into what amounts to an 19-hour movie, and the
speculation on What It All Means will continue for weeks, I believe Lynch &
Frost have given us a hell of a ride, and have changed the face of television
(Emmy voters notwithstanding).

So where do we go from here? Well, have we learned to pay attention to Mark
Frost? Repeated for your speculating pleasure:

Excerpted from an article in the 11/13 San Francisco Chronicle:

Peeking at Rest of 'Twin Peaks'
                                by John Carman

. . . from an official ABC public relations interview with co-executive
producer Mark Frost.

Q: With the murder of Laura Palmer apparently solved (Laura's father, Leland
Palmer, was revealed Saturday as the killer), when that crime is wrapped up,
will Dale Cooper remain in Twin Peaks--and if so, why?

Frost: Agent Cooper sadly plans to leave Twin Peaks following the resolution of
the Laura Palmer murder case. However, an FBI internal affairs investigation
into his two visits to One-Eyed Jacks delays his departure . . .

Q: Will the mysteries surrounding Laura Palmer continue to surface in "Twin
Peaks" story lines, or will you now consciously move away from her story line?

Frost: The larger mystery surrounding the death of Laura Palmer--the existence
of the evil spirit, "Bob"--will continue to develop throughout the season,
leading us into mystical realms, both good and evil.

Q: Is romance still possible between Dale Cooper and Audrey Horne?

Frost: Cooper has managed to avoid Audrey's advances for now. Her heart may
soon seek another direction. But romance will always remain a possibility
between the two of them.

Q: Can "Twin Peaks" viewers anticipate any major surprises involving any of the
established characters in the near future?

Frost: Several characters will enter new and surprising story lines. Agent
Cooper falls in love. Two powerful men will battle for control of Twin Peaks.
Audrey Horne meets a handsome stranger. James Hurley runs away from Twin Peaks
and finds himself in a deadly triangle.

Q: With Laura Palmer's murderer now known, are you at all concerned that the
viewing publisc will tire of "Twin Peaks"?

Frost: The solution of Laura Palmer's murder will allow us to explore a myriad
number of new stories and developments.

Q: Will anyone else be murdered in Twin Peaks?

Frost: Death, or more exactly, murder, will continue to play a part in the
"Twin Peaks" narrative.

Q: What of Shelly's and Bobby's plans for Leo? Will this strange triangle
continue?

Frost: The Shelly-Bobby-Leo triangle will continue, with a shocking result.

"Corkscrews!" I can't wait to see what happens next.
